In the case Oliver v. City of Duncan et. al., T. Ryan Langley of the Hodge & Langley Law Firm successfully argued that Duncan, S.C., police officer Terry Lane caused the wrongful death of his client’s daughter, Rebecca Lynn Oliver.
Langley used extensive evidence, references to earlier cases made in the U.S. Court of Appeals and expert witnesses in his case against the City of Duncan. He argued that the police officer did not follow standard policies and procedures, and instead used excessive force, when he chose to shoot Ms. Oliver. The case was settled for $700,000 to be awarded to Ms. Oliver’s estate.
