The year isn’t over, and yet auto makers have already set an all-time record for the highest number of cars recalled. Car manufacturers have recalled more than 56 million cars from January through October 2014, beating out the previous record from 1999. Chrysler, GM and Toyota have had particularly rough years, with problems ranging from ignition switches to complicated computer issues. Some of these issues resulted in increased risks for drivers, while others caused deaths.
So what does this mean for you? If you were involved in a car accident this year, it’s worth your time to investigate if the accident may have been caused by a defect in the car. Defects are often seen in seat belts, air bags, tires and fuel systems. You can search the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website first to see if your vehicle has known recalls or defects. Whether your car is listed as having a known problem or not, or whether or not you participated in a recall, you should speak with a lawyer if you’ve experienced an injury or loss of a loved one due to a car defect.
The Hodge & Langley Law Firm offers free initial consultations to help you understand if your car accident may indeed be related to a defect and worthy of a product liability case. In a product liability claim, such as one involving a problem in a car, we research whether or not a product itself is the cause of accident or injury. If we can prove that a defect in the car caused your accident or injury, and is not the fault of a driver or other circumstances, then we have a case. And if we represent you in a product liability claim, our fee will be a percentage of the award we win for you; if the case is lost, you owe us nothing.
