Driving Safely in Spartanburg
Written by Charles J. Hodge on January 26th 2016.
In 2015, Spartanburg County had the third-most motor vehicle deaths in South Carolina. The county reported 353 deaths caused by motor vehicles, which results in a mortality rate of 18 – meaning 18 of every 100,000 people in our county died in a car accident last year. The counties with more deaths caused by motor vehicles were Greenville (#1) and Charleston (#2). (See full report here).
While many people spend time worrying about their chances of dying from natural disasters, plane crashes or even terrorism, car accidents are, in fact, the fifth-most likely way to die, with the top four causes of death being, in order, heart disease, cancer, stroke and accidental injury.
We’re not writing this to make you scared to drive your car, but rather to help you realize that car safety – both in the car you drive and how you act while driving – has the potential to greatly affect your health and your life. By ensuring we drive safe cars made by reliable companies, and then making smart decisions on the road, we can try to remain safe even while “taking the risk” to drive.
At Hodge & Langley Law Firm, we know that some car and truck manufacturers have made unsafe products, so we’re dedicated to holding them fully accountable for putting drivers at risk. We’ve also have seen first-hand how motor vehicle accidents caused by drunk drivers or bad equipment can affect families. Driving may involve risk, but we shouldn’t be at risk from faulty products or bad drivers.
